Job Description

The Assistant General Manager (AGM) at Appellation Healdsburg plays a crucial role in supporting the Director of Food and Beverage and General Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the hotel’s dynamic food and beverage outlets, including the signature restaurant, bar, in-room dining, and pool service. The AGM acts as a liaison between departments, ensures adherence to operational standards, and champions a culture of hospitality excellence. The AGM partners with department heads to achieve service goals, maximize financial performance, and ensure consistent, elevated guest experiences. This role requires strategic thinking, exceptional leadership skills, and a passion for cultivating an engaged and motivated team.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Food and Beverage and General Manager in all aspects of daily operations and long-term planning.
  • Lead and motivate FOH management and hourly staff to maintain high standards of service and hospitality.
  • Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) in the absence of senior leadership, making critical decisions to ensure operational continuity.
  • Oversee opening and closing procedures for all F&B outlets, ensuring adherence to SOPs and brand standards.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef and culinary team to ensure seamless communication between FOH and BOH, maintaining quality and consistency in food and beverage offerings.
  • Address guest inquiries, concerns, and special requests in a timely and professional manner, personally resolving any issues to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Oversee recruitment, hiring, training, and development of FOH staff, fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork, and accountability.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide coaching and feedback to team members to support growth and maintain high morale.
  • Monitor inventory levels, coordinate with vendors, and ensure accurate ordering of supplies to meet operational needs.
  • Partner with the Director of Food and Beverage to manage labor and expense budgets, identifying areas of opportunity to improve profitability.
  • Develop and implement service training programs for FOH team members to maintain exceptional service standards.
  • Oversee compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation regulations, including food safety practices and responsible alcohol service.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and events teams to support programming, promotions, and special events.
  • Analyze guest feedback and operational data to identify trends and implement proactive improvements.
  • Attend and contribute to leadership meetings, providing operational insights and updates.
  • Champion the core values of the Appellation Hotels brand, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Food and Beverage or General Manager.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a senior FOH management or AGM role within a luxury hotel or high-volume, upscale dining environment.
  • Strong leadership abilities and proven success in managing large, diverse teams.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience managing labor and operating expenses.
  • In-depth knowledge of hospitality industry trends, food and beverage service, and guest satisfaction principles.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Proficiency in POS systems, inventory management software, and Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • ServSafe and TIPS certifications required; additional certifications in food safety or hospitality management a plus.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Passion for hospitality and commitment to continuous growth and development.
  • Must possess or obtain a California Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) Certification if serving alcohol (required as of 2022).
  • Familiarity with POS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid California driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000- $85,000 annually
