EDUCATION : Bachelor’s degree with completion of health courses required

LANGUAGE : Bilingual preferred; Texas Community Health Worker certification preferred.

JOB SUMMARY :

The purpose of this Community Health Advocacy Program Lead position is to lead community-based initiatives that will hire, train, and deploy local community health advocates (CHAs) and Community Health Workers (CHWs) to enhance local partnerships to increase access to citizenship, vaccine, understanding of how to navigate health systems, and infectious disease education in the Greater Houston area, especially the Asian, Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (A/AA and NH/PI) communities as well as other underserved communities. The Lead will work with grant funders in planning and disseminating appropriate culturally and linguistically tailored education resources in underserved communities. The Lead will also create curriculum prescribed by grant funders, to train members of the Community Health Advocacy Team on the education to be disseminated and standardized data collection that fulfill grant parameters. The Lead will take part in virtual program meetings and training events and participate in virtual exchanges of best practices to address vaccine hesitancy and barriers to access. The program lead will be responsible for the proper expenditure of funds, and funder required financial and outcomes reporting.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Lead education and outreach work to address funding objectives and further community health;
  • Take part in trainings and plan meetings, including those centered on the latest citizenship, vaccine and infectious disease recommendations;
  • Identify/recruit/on -board part-time, contracted community health team members from underserved communities;
  • Establish partnership with other Houston area organizations/establishments to increase citizenship, vaccine, health system navigation and infectious disease (or other requirements of grant funders) opportunities;
  • Identify health barriers and resources gaps;
  • Monitor and collect feedback on community concerns;
  • Responsible for programmatic and financial reporting and data collection;
  • Create and compile language appropriate citizenship and public health education information for underserved targeted populations;
  • Attend on-site/off-site community engagement activities, clinic events, and/or training as needed;
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support HOPE Clinic’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :

  • Strong proficiency and experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating data and data management on Excel, Access, or other data collection and evaluation programs.
  • Knowledge of basic public health concepts, including an understanding of public health philosophy, goals, and practices. Knowledge of communicable disease program objectives, goals, and priorities.
  • Skills in meeting and dealing successfully with persons in diverse cultural groups.
  • Proficient in use of computers and software programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and be able to utilize the Internet.
  • Positively contributes to staff morale and corporate culture.
  • Ensures that work assignments and information gathered from day-to-day work is not shared with anyone and protects all patient and agency information. Is knowledgeable of and maintains HIPAA standards of privacy and confidentiality.
  • Skill in adjusting to sudden changes of priorities and quantity of workload. Resourceful, responsible, and able to work irregular and/or long hours with little advance notice.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE :

  • Bachelor’s degree with completion of health courses required;
  • Minimum 2 years of community engagement with program coordination experience strongly preferred.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES :

  • Strong proficiency and experience in data collection, management, and evaluation on programs such as Excel, Access, or other data management programs;
  • Bilingual (Vietnamese, Chinese, Arabic and/or Spanish with English) is preferred.
  • Above average skills in language ability as well as public speaking and writing.
  • Must have good transportation and a valid Texas Driver’s license.
